Every individual that is a member of the Umma is expected to follow the Five Pillar of Islam. The Five Pillars of Islam provide all muslims in the Umma with a common set of rules and practices, thus strengthening the bound between the members of the Umma.
The Five Pillars of Islam are a set of rules/ acceptances that every Muslim or person of the Umma has to complete in their lifetime. These rules prove their respect and their dedication to Islam. 2 of the 5 steps, one is to donate alms to the poor and to make a pilgrimage to Mecca if you are able. The Muslims believe that if you do not complete these you will burn in hell
